Trade name – SONOKELING (Indian rosewood, Palisandre) (Medium-heavy hardwood). 
Botanical name – Dalbergia latifolia, Dalbergia sissoo.
Family – Leguminosae.

Sonokeling is a medium to heavy weight hardwood with characteristic streaks of ash gray, black to dark purple and light brown. It is a valuable material, used for high-end furniture, decorative veneers, souvenirs and handcrafted products.

Origin and distribution – Sonokeling is found in tropical and subtropical regions of all continents, under the names Indian Rosewood and Palissandre. Komodoor supplies Sonokeling from the Java region of Indonesia.

Komodoor offers Sonokeling in Select Black, Select Brown and Natural Grades. The colour is general fairly uniform. As such, we do not sort it into Light, Medium and Dark colour categories. Instead, Sonokeling is sorted for ash gray-black colour (black) and light reddish-brown, (brown).

Quarter and flat sawn. No dead knots, sapwood. Some pin holes and life knots are acceptable. Wild colour variation with domination of gray-black.
 

SELECT-BROWN

Quarter and flat sawn. No dead knots, sapwood. Some pin holes and life knots are acceptable. Wild colour variation with domination of reddish-brown.
